Take a walk - walking is good exercise Forget counting calories or carbohydrates. Simplify your life with a workout that's easy, safe, and ready when you are. Eleven years ago, Sara Donovan's son challenged her with this question: "Mom, why do you go on these diets?" Good question. The diets didn't seem to work. Neither did exercise. Donovan ran and did aerobics but had to limit her workouts because of low-back pain. All in all, what weight she lost, she always gained back. An operating-room nurse, Donovan saw the effects of obesity firsthand and understood the need to stay trim. "In the operating room, I saw arteries lined with plaque it looks like string cheese--and huge, flaccid hearts covered with fat." When her doctor suggested walking, she scoffed. "Too boring, too easy," she remembers thinking, but she tried it anyway. Today, Donovan is president of WalkSport America, a company that establishes mall-walking programs across the country.
